Taking her experience in the most sought-after industry in the world,  Shannan teaches college students the FUNDAMENTALS OF STORYTELLING for the screen and how to gain creative control in the LARGEST GATED COMMUNITY IN THE WORLD: HOLLYWOOD.

SHANNAN IS AN
​ExpERT STORYTELLER

 I'm Shannan E. Johnson, a former creative executive at NBCU/The Syfy Channel turned CEO of the first black-owned Script Consultant Agency in the entertainment business. Shannan is a storytelling expert who develops creatives and their ideas for the screen. She honed her skills in all stages of the development process taking showrunners from pitch to production on ​Alphas, Being Human, Haven, Sanctuary, Warehouse 13, and more Syfy dramedies. 
Shannan walked straight off the graduation stage at Texas A& University with two bachelor's degrees and into her career as an Academic Scholarship Advisor and Recruiter there. It didn't take long before she realized she was helping her students pursue their dreams - even starting a non-profit for teen girls - while stifling her own. So, she quit. She packed her life into her Chevrolet Cavalier and headed to Hollywood - the largest gated community in the world. She joined the crowd of eager creatives in waiting on the passcode for entry. Her staving artist life led her through internships, assistant positions to celebrity directors and top executives, and ultimately film school at Florida State University.  After receiving her MFA, Shannan returned to Hollywood as  a TV Executive taking stories from pitch to production. Then... She quit... again... because YOLO.

​Shannan calls Hollywood the largest gated community in the world. You cannot get the passcode unless you know someone. Nepotism at its finest. Shannan left the industry for 8 years to travel the globe as a performing artist in dance companies and Broadway National Tours - didn't see that coming, huh? During that time, her love for storytelling didn't wane, so she began The Professional Pen in 2014 as the ultimate side hustle. But when she returned to LA and realized she, too, was on the outside of the gate, Shannan turned her side hustle into a full-time career.
When Shannan returned to LA to live in her purpose but doors continued to slam in her face, she took the leap and bet on herself. She stopped pursuing her dreams and started chasing my reality. I became the protagonist of her own story.

Shannan is a script consultant = teacher + therapist. She uses life to teach storytelling techniques and screenplay structure, and storytelling elements to teach life in TPP's speaker series (#bookShannan). Shannan accesses her clients’ vulnerabilities and makes them put themselves on the page in order to create impactful stories.
